Who this list is for
This guide is for two travelers sharing a room who want a Chiang Mai luxury hotel with full service: breakfast included, a front desk that can arrange airport transfers and tours, and a location that keeps the trip easy. It works for first-time visitors choosing between Nimman and the old town, for repeat visitors interested in newer or recently renovated properties, and for anyone who prefers a smaller Chiang Mai boutique hotel to a large, busy one. Several picks here have around 80 rooms, while others are much larger, so you can choose the size that suits you.
How we picked
We used Agoda partner search data from October 8, 2026, for a two-night stay from November 8 to November 10, 2026, for two adults. From the luxury results, we compared each hotel’s distance from the city center, opening and renovation years, room count, check-in and check-out times, and what the rate we saw included.
Every hotel in this set was listed as 5-star at lookup time, which makes it a practical shortlist of Chiang Mai 5 star hotels for those dates. Every rate we saw also included breakfast. We don’t quote prices in the text because they change daily. The table on this page shows the live snapshot so you can compare for yourself.
The shortlist
U Nimman Chiang Mai
U Nimman is at 1 Nimmanhaemin Road, about 2.2 km from the city center. You stay on Nimman’s main road rather than in the old town. It opened in 2016, has 147 rooms and belongs to Absolute Resort & Hotels. At lookup time it had a 9.2 review score from 13,041 reviews, the largest number of reviews in this set, so you have plenty of guest feedback to read. Airport transfers can be booked in advance, and parking is free.
Good fit: couples who want a Nimman base in a mid-sized hotel with many guest reviews.
Watch for: the hotel details list no renovation year. If you plan to spend most of your time at temples in the old town, expect a short ride each day.
Maladee Rendezvous Hotel Chiang Mai
At lookup time, Maladee Rendezvous had the highest review score in this set: 9.3 from 1,901 reviews. It is about 2.2 km from the city center, similar to the Nimman hotels on this list.
Good fit: travelers who rely heavily on guest reviews and want an alternative to the bigger hotel brands.
Watch for: we have less information on this hotel than on the others. Our data has no address, opening year or room count, and at lookup time it had the fewest reviews in the set. Check the map and room details on the booking page before you book.
Melia Chiang Mai
Melia Chiang Mai opened in 2022, making it the newest hotel in this set. It has 260 rooms and is run by Melia Hotels International. The hotel is on Charoenprathet Road in Chang Khlan, about 1.8 km from the city center. At lookup time it scored 9.1 from 2,788 reviews.
Good fit: travelers who want a modern hotel from an international brand with the consistency of a large chain, and Melia loyalty members.
Watch for: check-in is at 3:00 PM, an hour later than at most hotels here. With 260 rooms, it will feel less personal than the boutique picks.
Chala Number 6
Chala Number 6 is the closest hotel to the city center in this set, about 0.4 km away, at 6/6 Phrapokklao Road in the Prasingh area. It is an independent hotel with 82 rooms, opened in 2017 and renovated in 2022. At lookup time it scored 9.1 from 2,754 reviews. If you are looking for Chiang Mai boutique hotels in the old city or close to it, start here.
Good fit: couples who like to walk between temples and want a smaller property near the old town.
Watch for: as an independent hotel, it has no chain loyalty program. With only 82 rooms, some room types may be unavailable on busy dates.
Chiang Mai Marriott Hotel
The Marriott is on Chang Klan Road, about 1.5 km from the city center. It opened in 2008 and was renovated in 2023. The hotel details list 24-hour room service, daily housekeeping and dry cleaning. At lookup time it scored 8.9 from 3,019 reviews.
Good fit: Marriott loyalty members and travelers who prefer a major international chain.
Watch for: the rate we saw did not show free Wi-Fi, so confirm internet access before booking. Check-in is at 3:00 PM, and our data does not include the room count.
SYN Boutique Hotel
SYN Boutique Hotel is on Cholprathan Road in Chang Phueak, about 3.1 km from the city center, the farthest hotel on this list. It has 80 rooms, opened in 2019 and was renovated in 2025, the most recent renovation in this set. The front desk offers express check-in and check-out, and the hotel lists car hire and a shuttle service. At lookup time it scored 8.9 from 3,122 reviews.
Good fit: travelers who want a recently renovated Chiang Mai boutique hotel and don’t mind riding into town.
Watch for: the distance means more taxi or shuttle trips. Ask the hotel for the shuttle schedule before you arrive.
Also worth comparing
Two more Nimman hotels complete the set. Art Mai Gallery Nimman Hotel is at 21 Nimmana Haeminda Road, about 2.1 km from the center. It has 79 rooms, belongs to Sleep Mai Group and was renovated in 2024. Kantary Hills Hotel is at 44 Nimmanhaemin Road, about 2.4 km from the center. With 284 rooms, it is the biggest hotel in this set among those with a listed room count, and it was renovated in 2022. At lookup time both scored 8.8, Art Mai Gallery from 4,926 reviews and Kantary Hills from 4,015 reviews.
How to choose
Start with location
The best hotel location in Chiang Mai depends on how you plan to spend your days. For the old town, Chala Number 6 is the clear choice in this set at 0.4 km from the center. For a Nimman base, compare U Nimman, Art Mai Gallery and Kantary Hills, which are all on Nimmanhaemin Road. Melia and the Marriott are in the Chang Khlan area, at 1.8 km and 1.5 km from the center. SYN is the farthest out at 3.1 km.
Choose the hotel size you prefer
Boutique-sized: Art Mai Gallery (79 rooms), SYN (80) and Chala Number 6 (82). Larger full-service hotels: U Nimman (147), Melia (260) and Kantary Hills (284). Smaller hotels tend to feel quieter and more personal. Larger ones usually offer more room types and facilities.
Look at both the score and the number of reviews
A high score based on a few reviews is less reliable than a slightly lower score based on thousands. At lookup time, U Nimman’s 9.2 came from 13,041 reviews, while Maladee Rendezvous’s 9.3 came from 1,901. Both are good signs, but the larger number of reviews gives you more to go on.
Traveling with kids
If you are searching for the best Chiang Mai hotel for kids, note that our search was for two adults, and our data does not list children’s facilities. Larger hotels such as Melia, Kantary Hills and U Nimman may have more room setups. Confirm the maximum occupancy, extra-bed rules and child breakfast policy directly with the hotel.
Booking checklist
- Free cancellation: check whether the rate is refundable and note the cancellation deadline. Non-refundable rates offer no flexibility if your plans change.
- Taxes and fees: before paying, confirm that the final total includes taxes and service charges. Compare total prices, not the advertised nightly rates.
- Room type: our search did not set a specific room type, so check the bed setup, room size and maximum occupancy on the booking page.
- Breakfast: every rate we saw included breakfast, but confirm that the rate you choose does too.
- Wi-Fi: at the Marriott, confirm internet access, because the rate we saw did not show free Wi-Fi.
- Arrival timing: check-in is at 2:00 PM at most hotels here and at 3:00 PM at Melia and the Marriott. Check-out is at noon at all of them. Book an airport transfer in advance if you land early or late.
