If you are deciding where to stay for the Shanghai Marathon, stay in central Shanghai near the Bund, because the race starts at Golden Bull Plaza. Runners who want an easy race morning should start with Grand Central Hotel Shanghai or Central Hotel. Supporters who want a larger full-service hotel should look at Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World or Shanghai Marriott Marquis City Centre, and flexible travelers can consider Novotel Shanghai Atlantis on Pudong Avenue.

Who this list is for

This guide is for Shanghai Marathon runners and the partners, friends and family who travel with them. We searched for two adults sharing a room, so the list suits couples and pairs of runners. It also works if you are adding a short city break and want a hotel that is easy to get back to after the finish.

If you searched for Shanghai Marathon Shanghai hotels, here is the short answer: book a central 4-star or higher hotel early, choose free cancellation and check your route to the start before you pay.

Why Shanghai Marathon hotels sell out

The 2026 race starts on the Bund, and the full-marathon field grows to 30,000 runners. All of them need beds on the same nights, and most want a short, predictable trip to the start. Supporters add to demand, and regular weekend visitors are booking central Shanghai at the same time.

Well-located rooms near the Bund with flexible cancellation usually go first. If you book late, you may have fewer choices, be farther out or be limited to non-refundable rates.

Where to stay: the Bund

Start from Golden Bull Plaza on the Bund and work outward. If you are comparing hotels near the Bund, five of our six picks are between 2.7 and 3.1 km from the city center in Agoda’s location data. They are on Nanjing Road, Jiujiang Road, Renmin Road and Middle Xizang Road. The sixth is on Pudong Avenue, 6.7 km from the city center, and needs more planning on race morning.

Distance to the city center is not the same as distance to the start line. Before booking, map the route from each hotel to Golden Bull Plaza. Allow extra time for crowds and possible road closures, and decide in advance whether you will walk, take the metro or use a taxi.

How we picked

We used Agoda partner search data pulled on October 24, 2026. The search covered two nights for two adults, checking in on race day. From the Shanghai hotels returned, we kept those rated 4-star or higher. We compared location relative to the Bund, guest review scores at lookup time, hotel size, check-in times and practical extras such as luggage storage.

Every hotel in this search showed breakfast as included in the offer we saw, but confirm it on the exact rate you choose. Prices change quickly on race weekends, so live prices are in the table on this page rather than in the text.

Hotel notes

Grand Central Hotel Shanghai

At lookup time, this was a 5-star hotel with a review score of 8.9 from 10,897 reviews, the most reviews among the hotels we checked. It is at 505 Jiujiang Road, 3.1 km from the city center, and has 353 rooms. Its most recent listed renovation was in 2012. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM, and the hotel offers concierge service, luggage storage and a ticket and tour desk.

It suits runners who want a full-service hotel with a standard afternoon check-in. Caveats: it sat in the middle of our price ordering, and its last renovation is older than several others here.

Central Hotel

Central Hotel is on the same street, at 555 Jiujiang Road, 3.0 km from the city center. At lookup time, it was a 4-star hotel with a review score of 8.8 from 7,822 reviews. It opened in 1999, was renovated in 2012 and has 312 rooms. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM, and luggage storage is available.

It suits runners and pairs who care most about a central location. It sat second-lowest in our price ordering among the eight hotels we checked. Caveats: the building is older, and our data did not name a room type, so confirm the bed setup for two adults.

Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World

At 88 Nanjing Road West, 2.7 km from the city center, this hotel has the most rooms of any pick that lists a room count: 507. At lookup time, it was a 5-star hotel with a review score of 8.8 from 2,810 reviews. It opened in 2005, was renovated in 2018 and offers airport transfers and a shuttle.

It suits supporters and couples who want a large full-service hotel with a recent renovation. Caveat: check-in starts at 3:00 PM, later than most picks here, so plan where to leave your bags if you arrive on race morning.

Shanghai Marriott Marquis City Centre

This hotel is at 555 Middle Xizang Road, close to Nanjing Road in Huangpu District, and 2.9 km from the city center. At lookup time, it was a 5-star hotel with a review score of 9.0 from 2,513 reviews, tied for the highest score among the hotels we checked. It opened in 2011 and was renovated in 2022.

It suits supporters who want a recently renovated, upscale hotel for a post-race celebration. Caveats: check-in starts at 4:00 PM, the latest on this list. Our search data did not show free Wi-Fi for this hotel, and it sat highest in our price ordering.

SSAW Boutique Hotel Shanghai Bund

At No. 839 Renmin Road, 2.7 km from the city center, this hotel has 165 rooms, the fewest among our picks that list a room count. At lookup time, it was a 4-star hotel with a review score of 8.5 from 9,881 reviews. It opened in 2011, and check-in starts at 2:00 PM.

It suits travelers who prefer a boutique hotel to a large one, and it sat in the lower half of our price ordering. Caveats: at lookup time, its review score was the lowest of the eight hotels we checked. With fewer rooms, it also has less availability on a busy weekend. The name mentions the Bund, but still check the route to Golden Bull Plaza.

Novotel Shanghai Atlantis

At 728 Pudong Avenue, 6.7 km from the city center, this is the only pick outside the central cluster. At lookup time, it was a 4-star hotel with a review score of 8.6 from 1,792 reviews. It opened in 2000, has 293 rooms and was renovated in 2023, more recently than any other pick. It also offers free parking and a shuttle.

It suits travelers arriving by car and anyone who cares more about a lower spot in the price ordering than about location. It sat lowest of the eight hotels we checked. Caveat: it is the farthest pick from the city center, so make a firm transport plan for race morning and allow extra time.

  • Preferring a smaller hotel: SSAW Boutique Hotel Shanghai Bund has the fewest listed rooms among our picks.
  • Arriving by car: Novotel Shanghai Atlantis offers free parking. Several others offer parking, so ask about availability and any charge.

If you want to wake up near the start, add the night before the race now. Check the live table on this page from time to time, because availability changes as other travelers cancel or book.
