If you want the most hotel for your money in Tokyo, base yourself in the Nihonbashi area of Chuo ward. APA Hotel Nihombashi Bakuroyokoyama Ekimae and APA Hotel Higashi-Nihonbashi-Ekimae were the two lowest-priced well-rated hotels in our search, and both sit within about 2.6 km of the city centre. Sightseers should consider Asakusa, travellers who want the Shinjuku side should consider Nishi-Shinjuku, and anyone willing to pay a little more for a central address can look at Akasaka or Ueno.

Who this list is for

This guide covers Tokyo value hotels for travellers who want a private hotel room with a strong guest score rather than a hostel bed or a luxury suite. It suits:

  • Couples and pairs of friends on a city break who will spend most of the day out
  • First-time visitors who want to be near central Tokyo without paying top-tier prices
  • Solo and business travellers who value a reliable chain standard, express check-in and laundry facilities
  • Repeat visitors comparing like-for-like options across neighbourhoods

It is not the right list if you need a large family room, resort facilities or a hotel by the Tokyo Disney area. None of those were part of this search.

How we picked these Tokyo value hotels

We used Agoda partner search data that we looked up on October 12, 2026, for a two-night stay from November 12 to November 14, 2026, for two adults. From the results we kept hotels only, so the comparison is like-for-like.

Our value rule is simple: every hotel here scored at least 8.4 out of 10 on Agoda at lookup time. Among hotels that passed that rule, we compared prices relative to each other to sort them into tiers. Distances to the city centre come from the same search data, and check-in and check-out times come from each hotel’s property details. We have not quoted prices here. Tokyo hotel prices change daily, so the live table on this page shows the current figures.

Tokyo value hotels at a glance

All eight hotels in our search offer free Wi-Fi. Breakfast notes refer to the rate our search returned, not every rate the hotel sells.

Hotel notes: why each pick, who it suits, and the catch

APA Hotel Nihombashi Bakuroyokoyama Ekimae

This is the newest hotel on the list. It opened in 2020, has 281 rooms and does not allow smoking anywhere in the building. It scored 8.7 from 6,949 reviews at lookup time, and it was the second-lowest-priced hotel in our search. It is 2.5 km from the city centre. Express check-in and check-out, plus laundry and dry-cleaning services, make it a practical base for couples, solo travellers and business trips.

Caveat: the rate we found did not include breakfast, so plan to eat out or add a breakfast rate.

APA Hotel Higashi-Nihonbashi-Ekimae

The lowest-priced hotel in our search still came with breakfast on the rate we found. It scored 8.4 from 11,492 reviews at lookup time. The hotel opened in 2014 and has 219 rooms, luggage storage, express check-in and check-out, laundry service and on-site parking. It suits budget-first couples who want a central Chuo ward address.

Caveat: it is the oldest of the Nihonbashi picks with no renovation year listed, and its score sits right at our minimum.

APA Hotel Asakusa Tawaramachi Ekimae

No hotel in the set had more reviews. It scored 8.7 from 21,756 reviews at lookup time. Opened in 2017 with 465 rooms, it has an on-site laundromat, luggage storage and safety deposit boxes, and breakfast was included on the rate we found. Its Nishi-Asakusa address in Taito ward makes it a natural fit for first-time sightseers.

Caveat: it was listed 3.5 km from the centre at lookup time, a little further out than the Nihonbashi hotels.

APA Hotel & Resort Nishishinjuku Gochome Ekimae Tower

This is the pick for anyone searching for cheap hotels in Shinjuku. The hotel is named for Nishi-Shinjuku 5-chome, and its address is in Honmachi, Shibuya ward. It scored 8.5 from 19,300 reviews at lookup time. It opened in 2018, has 710 rooms, and offers express check-in, a laundromat and luggage storage. Breakfast was included on the rate we found.

Caveat: at 6.5 km, it is the furthest of the city hotels from the centre. With 710 rooms, check-in and breakfast can get busy at peak times.

APA Hotel Pride Akasaka Kokkaigijidomae

This is the upscale-for-less option. It was listed as a 4-star hotel and scored 8.6 from 7,549 reviews at lookup time. It opened in 2019 with 500 rooms and sits in Nagatacho, Chiyoda ward, 2.7 km from the centre. Breakfast was included on the rate we found, and there is a laundromat and luggage storage. It suits couples who want a more polished stay without moving into luxury pricing.

Caveat: it ranked in the upper half of the set on price, above both Nihonbashi hotels.

APA Hotel Keisei Ueno Ekimae Minami

At 2.1 km, this was the closest hotel to the city centre. It also had the top guest score, 9.1, although that came from only 189 reviews at lookup time. Breakfast was included on the rate we found.

Caveat: it was the highest-priced hotel in our set, and our data had little property detail. Confirm the room type and facilities on the booking page.

Which area gives the most value

  • Budget tier: Nihonbashi in Chuo ward. The two lowest-priced hotels in our search are both here, each within 2.6 km of the centre.
  • Mid-range tier: Asakusa for sightseeing, or Nishi-Shinjuku for the west side of the city. HOTEL MYSTAYS Haneda also sits in this price band. It is 16.1 km from the centre, but the hotel can arrange airport transport before you arrive, which helps with late arrivals or early flights.
  • Upscale-for-less tier: Akasaka, Ginza Shintomicho and Ueno. APA Hotel Ginza Shintomicho Ekimae Kita is a smaller property with 98 rooms, offering concierge service and daily housekeeping, and it was listed 3.0 km from the centre at lookup time.

Trade-offs to expect: room size, check-in times and noise

Room size. Our data does not include room sizes, and chain hotels in Tokyo are often compact. Check the listed room size and bed type before booking, especially if you are travelling with large suitcases.

Check-in and check-out. Check-in is 3:00 PM at every hotel here, and the APA hotels expect you out by 10:00 AM. That is earlier than many travellers expect. Use luggage storage on your departure day.

Noise. Ekimae means in front of the station, so most of these hotels sit beside a station. That is convenient, but streets can be busy. If you sleep lightly, ask for a higher floor.

How to choose

  • Lowest spend with breakfast: APA Hotel Higashi-Nihonbashi-Ekimae
  • Newest building and a non-smoking hotel: APA Hotel Nihombashi Bakuroyokoyama Ekimae
  • Sightseeing first: APA Hotel Asakusa Tawaramachi Ekimae
  • Shinjuku side: APA Hotel & Resort Nishishinjuku Gochome Ekimae Tower
  • A more polished stay in the centre: APA Hotel Pride Akasaka Kokkaigijidomae
  • Early flight from Haneda: HOTEL MYSTAYS Haneda, which also has the latest check-out on the list

Booking checklist

  • Free cancellation: confirm whether your rate can be cancelled for free and note the deadline. Non-refundable rates often carry stricter terms.
  • Taxes and fees: check the final total on the payment page, not just the headline rate, so you know exactly what you will be charged.
  • Room type: confirm double or twin beds, room size and smoking policy before you pay.
  • Breakfast: make sure the rate you select says breakfast included if you want it. It varies by rate.
  • Occupancy: our search was for two adults. Families should confirm that the room allows children and extra guests.
