Who this list is for
This guide is for film fans, festival guests and industry visitors who need Tokyo International Film Festival 2026 (39th) hotels. It assumes two adults sharing a room and planning to attend screenings, red-carpet events or the TIFFCOM market. If you would rather lock in a dependable, well-reviewed room early than look for whatever is left near opening night, start here.
We focus on practical trade-offs: neighborhood versus festival access, review strength versus price position, and which hotels suit which kind of trip.
Why rooms get tight during the festival
The festival runs for 10 days, with screenings, red-carpet events and guest appearances across central Tokyo. The TIFFCOM content market also takes place during the festival, which brings an industry crowd on top of film fans and press. These visitors book the same rooms as Tokyo’s everyday business and leisure travelers.
Well-reviewed hotels with breakfast included and an easy trip to the center tend to fill first. If you need a particular hotel, room type or flexible rate, book early.
Which area suits the festival
The festival is centered on Hibiya, Yurakucho, Marunouchi and Ginza. If you can find a room there, you will have the shortest trips to screenings and events, plus the easiest late-night return.
None of the hotels in our search were in that district. The well-reviewed options we found were in Asakusa, Nippori and Shinjuku, near Haneda Airport and on the Tokyo Bay side in Urayasu. For each hotel below, we list its distance from the city center so you can compare commutes. Before you book, check how long the trip takes from each hotel to the venues you plan to attend.
How we picked
We used Agoda partner search data looked up on October 9, 2026, for a two-night stay for two adults, checking in on the festival’s opening day. We compared star ratings, guest review scores and review counts, distance from the city center, breakfast inclusion and each hotel’s relative position in the price order. Then we shortlisted the hotels that offer the best balance for festival visitors.
We do not quote prices in this article. The table on this page shows live snapshot rates, and rates change quickly around major events.
Hotel notes
Asakusa Tobu Hotel
Why: At lookup time, this 3-star hotel had the highest review score in our set, 9.2 from 13,746 reviews. It is on Asakusa’s main area, 4.1 km from the city center, and has 253 rooms. Check-in starts at 2 PM, which helps if you arrive in the morning before an afternoon screening. Breakfast was included in the rate we saw.
Best for: Couples who want a calm, characterful base and value guest feedback over a short commute.
Caveats: It sat at the upper end of this list’s price order at lookup time. Asakusa is outside the festival’s core district, so allow time for transit on screening days.
Almont Hotel Nippori
Why: At lookup time, this 3-star hotel scored 9.1 from 18,630 reviews, just behind Asakusa Tobu. It is 4.0 km from the city center and sat in the middle of this list’s price order. Breakfast was included in the rate we saw.
Best for: Travelers who want strong guest reviews without paying for the most expensive rooms on this list.
Caveats: Our data had limited property details for this hotel. Check room size, bed setup and check-in times on the booking page.
Hotel Gracery Shinjuku
Why: At lookup time, this 4-star hotel scored 8.7 from 30,296 reviews. It opened in 2015, has 970 rooms and is in Kabukicho, 4.8 km from the city center. The hotel lists concierge service, express check-in and check-out, luggage storage and a ticket service. Those are useful on busy festival days. Check-in starts at 2 PM.
Best for: Visitors who want a big, full-service hotel in Shinjuku with plenty of help at the front desk.
Caveats: It sat near the top of this list’s price order at lookup time. Shinjuku is outside the festival district, so plan your evening trips back.
Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku
Why: At lookup time, this 4-star hotel scored 8.6 from 27,566 reviews. It opened in 2007, has 624 rooms and is in the Yoyogi area of Shibuya-ku, 5.2 km from the city center. Breakfast was included in the rate we saw, and the hotel lists luggage storage and safety deposit boxes.
Best for: Travelers who want a four-star west-side base with a mid-list price position.
Caveats: Its review score was the lowest of the eight hotels we compared at lookup time, but its reviews were still solid. Check-in is not until 3 PM.
APA Hotel Asakusa Tawaramachi Ekimae
Why: At lookup time, this 3-star hotel scored 8.7 from 21,729 reviews and sat at the most affordable end of this list’s price order. At 3.5 km, it was also the closest of our picks to the city center. It opened in 2017 and has 465 rooms.
Best for: Budget-minded festival-goers who will spend most of the day at screenings and mainly need a clean, efficient room.
Caveats: Breakfast was not included in the rate we saw, and checkout is at 10 AM, the earliest of the hotels in our search. Check the room type carefully if you need extra space.
Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport
Why: At lookup time, this 4-star hotel scored 8.9 and had the largest review count in our set, 46,849 reviews. It opened in 2020, has 1,531 rooms and is located at Haneda Airport. Breakfast was included in the rate we saw.
Best for: Industry visitors and guests on tight flight schedules, especially for the first or last night of a trip.
Caveats: It is 16.9 km from the city center, so it is not practical for several nights of late screenings.
Tokyo Bay alternatives
Two bay-side hotels also appeared in our search, both in Urayasu. At lookup time, Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama was rated 4.5 stars and scored 9.0 from 13,553 reviews, and it is 13.0 km from the city center. At lookup time, Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay was rated 4 stars and scored 8.7 from 21,137 reviews. It was renovated in 2025 and is 15.0 km from the city center. Both are better for a mixed leisure trip than for a screening-heavy itinerary.
How to choose
- If you are mainly there for screenings: Keep your commute short. Search the Hibiya, Yurakucho, Marunouchi and Ginza area first. If those rooms are gone, compare the Asakusa and Nippori picks, which were among the closest to the city center in our data.
- If guest reviews matter most: Asakusa Tobu Hotel and Almont Hotel Nippori led our set at lookup time.
- If you want full-service support: Hotel Gracery Shinjuku lists concierge and ticket services.
- If you are watching your budget: APA Hotel Asakusa Tawaramachi Ekimae sat at the affordable end of the list. Budget for breakfast separately.
- If you are flying in for TIFFCOM: Consider a night at Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport on either end of the trip, with the rest of your stay closer to the center.
When to book
Book once you know which festival days you will attend. Opening-night and red-carpet nights, along with the days the TIFFCOM market overlaps the festival, are likely to draw the most visitors. If your schedule is not final, choose a free-cancellation rate to hold a room. Then compare prices again closer to your trip in the table on this page.
Booking checklist
- Free cancellation: Note the exact cancellation deadline. If films or market meetings may move, make sure you can still cancel after the program is announced.
- Taxes and fees: Confirm whether the total shown includes taxes and any local fees before you pay.
- Room type: Our data did not specify room types, so confirm the bed setup for two adults, such as twin or double, and the room size.
- Breakfast: Check that breakfast is included in the specific rate you choose, especially if you are comparing it with APA.
- Check-in and checkout: Check-in times range from 2 PM to 3 PM and checkout from 10 AM to 12 PM across our picks. Match them to your first and last screenings.
- Luggage storage: Several of our picks list luggage storage, which helps on arrival and departure days.
- Late returns: Confirm how you will get back after evening events, and make sure the hotel can handle late arrivals.
If you want the fewest compromises, start with the festival’s core district, then compare it against the well-reviewed picks above.
