For a Hong Kong luxury hotel close to the action, start with Royal Garden Hotel or Hotel Icon, the two 5-star picks within a kilometre of the city centre in our search. Couples and business travellers who put guest reviews first should look at Cordis, Hong Kong, which shared the top review score on this list at lookup time. Families planning Disneyland days should book Disney Explorers Lodge, inside the resort on Lantau Island.

Who this list is for

This guide is for travellers comparing Hong Kong 5-star hotels for a city break, a stopover or a family trip who want a short, practical shortlist. It suits couples, business travellers and families with a theme-park day planned. Famous names such as The Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons were not among the hotels returned in our search, so compare any of them separately against these picks.

How we picked these hotels

We used Agoda partner search data looked up on October 28, 2026, for a two-night stay from November 28 to November 30, 2026, for two adults. Every hotel returned was 5-star. For each we checked location, guest reviews at lookup time, breakfast and wifi flags, check-in times, size and hotel group. We then chose six hotels that cover different trip types. Rates change constantly, so the price table on this page shows live figures instead of numbers fixed in the text.

Kowloon, Hong Kong Island or further out

The classic choice is between the Kowloon side and Hong Kong Island, which face each other across Victoria Harbour. From Kowloon you look across at the Island skyline, and from the Island you look back at Kowloon, but the view depends on your room, not just your side of the water. Distance from the city centre is the clearest guide to this shortlist:

  • Within 1 km: Royal Garden Hotel (0.6 km, Mody Road in Tsimshatsui East, Kowloon) and Hotel Icon (0.9 km, Science Museum Road). Best for short stays.
  • Two to three kilometres: Harbour Grand Hong Kong Hotel (2.2 km, Oil Street), Cordis, Hong Kong (2.4 km, Shanghai Street) and Royal Plaza Hotel (2.9 km, Prince Edward Road West, Kowloon). All three list taxi services for quick trips into the centre.
  • Nine kilometres or more: Royal Park Hotel (9.3 km), Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West (10.0 km, New Territories) and Disney Explorers Lodge (13.5 km, Lantau Island). Choose these for a specific reason and allow for longer journeys.

Hotel-by-hotel notes

Cordis, Hong Kong

Why pick it: Cordis shared the top review score on this list at lookup time, 8.9 from 15,859 reviews. Part of Langham Hotels International, it has 665 rooms, opened in 2004 and lists a 2015 renovation. It is on Shanghai Street, 2.4 km from the city centre, and its description mentions express check-in and check-out, airport transfers and concierge help. Breakfast and free wifi flags were both set at lookup time.

Who it suits: Couples and business travellers who want a well-reviewed, mid-sized hotel with a noon checkout.

Watch for: It sat in the middle of this list’s price order for our dates, and nothing in our data confirms harbour views.

Hotel Icon

Why pick it: Hotel Icon also scored 8.9 at lookup time, from 8,364 reviews. With 262 rooms it has the lowest published room count on this list, and at 0.9 km it is one of the two most central picks. It opened in 2011, and its description mentions shuttle and car hire services, express check-in and check-out, and help with attraction passes. Breakfast and free wifi flags were set at lookup time, and checkout is at noon.

Who it suits: Couples and stopover travellers who prefer a smaller hotel close to the centre.

Watch for: It sat at the top of this list’s price order for our dates and had the fewest reviews here at lookup time.

Royal Garden Hotel

Why pick it: At 0.6 km from the city centre on Mody Road in Tsimshatsui East, Royal Garden Hotel is the most central hotel on this list. It belongs to SHKP Hotels, has 445 rooms, opened in 1981 and lists a 2011 renovation. It scored 8.5 from 17,740 reviews at lookup time, with breakfast and free wifi flags set, and sat toward the lower end of this list’s price order for our dates.

Who it suits: First-time visitors and stopover travellers who want a walkable base without paying for the top of the price order.

Watch for: It has the earliest opening year on this list, so check recent guest photos if modern decor matters. Checkout is at 11 AM.

Disney Explorers Lodge

Why pick it: Located within Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on Lantau Island, this is the clear choice for a family trip built around the park. It scored 8.9 from 14,800 reviews at lookup time, with breakfast and free wifi flags set.

Who it suits: Families with children, and anyone whose main plan is Disneyland.

Watch for: At 13.5 km from the city centre, it is the furthest hotel on this list and a weak base for city sightseeing. Our data had no facility details, so check the hotel page. It sat toward the upper end of the price order, and checkout is at 11 AM.

Harbour Grand Hong Kong Hotel

Why pick it: Harbour Grand is on Oil Street, 2.2 km from the city centre. Part of Harbour Plaza Hotels & Resorts, it opened in 2009 with 828 rooms. Its description mentions express check-in and check-out, concierge, luggage storage, dry cleaning and laundry, which helps on longer or work-heavy trips. It scored 8.4 from 15,143 reviews at lookup time, with breakfast and free wifi flags set, and checkout is at noon.

Who it suits: Business travellers and longer stays that need laundry service.

Watch for: Having Harbour in the name does not guarantee a harbour view, so book a room type that names one. Its review score at lookup time was the lowest of the six picks here, and it sat in the upper half of the price order.

Royal Plaza Hotel

Why pick it: Royal Plaza is on Prince Edward Road West in Kowloon, 2.9 km from the city centre. It had the most guest reviews on this list at lookup time, 59,146, with a score of 8.7. Part of SHKP Hotels, it has 699 rooms, opened in 1997 and lists a 2013 renovation. Its description mentions complimentary wifi, pre-bookable airport transfers, on-site parking and luggage storage.

Who it suits: Travellers who value a long review track record and are happy to eat breakfast out.

Watch for: The breakfast flag was not set at lookup time, so check whether your rate includes breakfast. Checkout is at 11 AM, and the hotel sat in the middle of the price order.

Harbour views, pools and spas: what to confirm

If you want a Hong Kong hotel with a harbour skyline view, the room type matters more than the hotel. Our search did not return named room types for any hotel on this list, so we cannot promise a harbour view at any of them. Choose a room whose name explicitly includes a harbour view; a generic or city-view room does not guarantee one.

The same goes for pools, spas and fine dining. The property descriptions we read focus on concierge, airport transfers, luggage storage and laundry, and do not confirm a pool, spa or signature restaurant. If one of those is the reason for your trip, check the facilities list on the hotel page first.

How to choose

The best hotel to stay in Hong Kong depends more on your plans than on any single score:

  • Short stopover or first visit: Royal Garden Hotel or Hotel Icon, both within 1 km of the centre.
  • Reviews first: Cordis, Hong Kong, Hotel Icon and Disney Explorers Lodge shared the top review score at lookup time.
  • Family Disneyland trip: Disney Explorers Lodge.
  • Business or longer stays: Cordis or Harbour Grand, for express check-in and check-out and a noon checkout.
  • Hotel group loyalty: If a Hong Kong luxury hotel brand matters to you, Royal Plaza, Royal Garden and Royal Park belong to SHKP Hotels, Cordis to Langham Hotels International, and Harbour Grand to Harbour Plaza Hotels & Resorts.
  • Early arrivals: Every hotel here lists a 3:00 PM check-in, so ask about early check-in or use luggage storage where offered.

Booking checklist

  • Free cancellation: Our data does not show cancellation terms, and they vary by rate. Read the policy on your exact rate before you pay.
  • Taxes and fees: Check whether the total includes taxes and service charges, and compare totals for the whole stay.
  • Room type: Pick a named room type with the bed setup you need for two people. For a harbour view, the room name must say so.
  • Breakfast: Inclusion depends on the rate. Double-check it at Royal Plaza Hotel, where the breakfast flag was not set at lookup time.
  • Wifi: At lookup time, free wifi was flagged for every hotel in our search except Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West.
