For most families, a practical Tokyo family hotel base sits between 4 and 5.5 km from the city centre. Asakusa Tobu Hotel or Richmond Hotel Premier Tokyo Schole are where we would start, and both have a 2 PM check-in. Families who want large hotels with more services should look at Hotel Gracery Shinjuku or Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku, budget-minded parents should look at Almont Hotel Nippori, and anyone planning Tokyo Bay days should look at Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama.

  • Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama: the Tokyo Bay pick, with shuttle and taxi services and a noon checkout.

Who this list is for

This shortlist is for parents who want a few family-friendly Tokyo hotels they can compare quickly, not a long catalogue. It suits families who like breakfast at the hotel, laundry facilities on a longer trip and luggage storage for early arrivals or late flights. If you are looking at Tokyo hotels for a family of 4 or a larger group, use it as a starting point. Our search was run for two adults, so you need to check room capacity for children on each booking page.

How we picked

We used Agoda partner search data looked up on October 18, 2026, for a two-night stay from November 18 to November 20, 2026, for two adults. From the hotels returned, we compared guest review scores and the number of reviews behind them, distance from the city centre, check-in and checkout times, and the services each hotel lists, such as laundry, luggage storage and parking. Every hotel in this search showed breakfast included and free Wi-Fi in the offers we saw. We then grouped the shortlist by neighbourhood using each hotel’s address.

Asakusa, Oshiage and Nippori: smaller hotels near the centre

Asakusa Tobu Hotel

At lookup time, Asakusa Tobu Hotel was a 3-star hotel scoring 9.2 from 13,769 reviews, the highest score in our search. It is in Asakusa, 4.1 km from the centre, and has 253 rooms, far fewer than the big Shinjuku hotels. Check-in is from 2 PM and checkout is at 11 AM, which helps if you land in the morning with tired children. The hotel lists luggage storage, a laundromat, laundry service, parking and daily housekeeping.

Good for: families who want a smaller hotel and an early check-in.

Caveats: it was near the top of the price range in our search, and our data did not include room sizes, so check the floor area and bed setup before booking.

Richmond Hotel Premier Tokyo Schole

At lookup time, this 4-star hotel scored 9.1 from 15,128 reviews. It is in Oshiage, Sumida-ku, 5.5 km from the centre. It opened in 2015 and has 252 rooms. Like Asakusa Tobu Hotel, it has a 2 PM check-in and an 11 AM checkout. It lists luggage storage, safety deposit boxes, a laundromat, dry cleaning and laundry service.

Good for: families on a longer trip who want laundry options, a smaller hotel and a rate in the middle of our search.

Caveats: at 5.5 km, it is the furthest from the centre of the three hotels in this group. Confirm that your chosen room type sleeps the whole family.

Almont Hotel Nippori

At lookup time, Almont Hotel Nippori was a 3-star hotel scoring 9.1 from 18,695 reviews. It was the lowest-priced hotel in our search and, at about 4 km, the closest to the centre.

Good for: budget-minded parents and smaller groups, such as a family of 3, who mainly need a well-placed base with breakfast.

Caveats: our search data did not include its check-in time, full address or room types. Confirm all three, and whether children can share existing beds, before you pay.

Shinjuku: large hotels with more services

Hotel Gracery Shinjuku

At lookup time, Hotel Gracery Shinjuku was a 4-star hotel scoring 8.7 from 30,365 reviews. It is in Kabukicho, 4.8 km from the centre. It opened in 2015 and has 970 rooms. Check-in is from 2 PM and checkout is at 11 AM. The front desk offers concierge service, express check-in and checkout, luggage storage, safety deposit boxes and a ticket service, which helps when you plan days out with children.

Good for: families who want planning help at the front desk and a rate near the lower end of our search.

Caveats: Kabukicho is Shinjuku’s entertainment district and stays busy late, which not every family will enjoy.

Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku

At lookup time, this 4-star hotel scored 8.6 from 27,617 reviews, the lowest score among the eight hotels we checked. Its address is in Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku, 5.2 km from the centre. It opened in 2007 and has 624 rooms. Check-in is from 3 PM and checkout is at 11 AM. The hotel lists luggage storage, safety deposit boxes, a laundromat, dry cleaning, laundry service and parking.

Good for: families who want a base near Shinjuku but outside Kabukicho, and who need laundry on a longer trip.

Caveats: check-in is later here, so after an early arrival you may need to leave your bags and come back in the afternoon.

Tokyo Bay: for bay-side days

Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama

At lookup time, this 4.5-star hotel scored 9.0 from 13,592 reviews and had the highest star class in our search. Its address is in Maihama, Urayasu, Chiba, 13.0 km from the centre. It opened in 1990, was renovated in 2021 and has 709 rooms. Check-in is from 3 PM, and the noon checkout allows a slower morning with children. The hotel lists taxi and shuttle services, parking, luggage storage, a laundromat and laundry service.

Good for: families whose trip centres on Tokyo Bay theme-park days.

Caveats: at 13.0 km, trips into central Tokyo take longer, and it was near the top of the price range in our search. Before you rely on the shuttle, ask the hotel where it goes and how often it runs.

How to choose the right Tokyo family hotel

Start with your headcount

Many searches default to two adults, and ours did too. Before you compare any Tokyo family hotel room, enter every adult and child with each child’s age, and see which room types still appear. For a family of 5, two adjacent or connecting rooms may be easier to find than one room that sleeps everyone, so ask the hotel directly.

Match the area to your days

  • Asakusa, Oshiage or Nippori: smaller hotels between 4 and 5.5 km from the centre. Asakusa Tobu Hotel and Richmond Hotel Premier Tokyo Schole both check in from 2 PM.
  • Shinjuku: large hotels with more front-desk services, 4.8 to 5.2 km out.
  • Tokyo Bay: Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama, or Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay in Mihama, Urayasu, which is 15.0 km out and was renovated in 2025. Both have a noon checkout.
  • Haneda Airport: Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport works for a first or last night around a flight. It opened in 2020, has 1,531 rooms and is 16.9 km from the centre.

Our search did not return hotels around Tokyo Station, Ginza or Odaiba. If you want to stay in those areas, run a separate search.

Weigh timing and budget

Check-in times are either 2 PM or 3 PM. If you arrive early, choose a 2 PM hotel or plan to leave your bags first. Every hotel here with listed services offers luggage storage. On price, Almont Hotel Nippori, Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport and Hotel Gracery Shinjuku were near the bottom of our search, while Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama and Asakusa Tobu Hotel were near the top.

Booking checklist for families

  • Free cancellation: pick a free-cancellation rate where you can and note the deadline. Family-sized rooms can sell out early, so booking a flexible rate early keeps your options open.
  • Taxes and fees: compare the final total with taxes and fees included, and check whether anything has to be paid at the hotel.
  • Room type: read the bed setup and maximum occupancy for the exact room you select, and confirm whether children can share existing beds.
  • Breakfast for children: breakfast showed as included in the offers we saw, but confirm it covers every guest on your rate.
  • Arrival plan: check the check-in time, and message the hotel if you need to store luggage early or will arrive late.
